www.mafic.com

Mafic was formed for the production of advanced materials for the composite industry utilizing Basalt. Mafic has manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe. Mafic can produce Basalt Fiber (available as Direct Roving, Assembled Roving, and Chopped Fiber) and is ideal for making composites, fabrics, matts, geogrids and other products. ● What is Basalt? Basalt Fiber is a fiber, structurally similar to glass fiber, which exhibits improved properties over traditional glass fiber in composite and thermal applications. ● What is Basalt Fiber made of? Basalt Fiber is made of basalt rock, an igneous rock formed by the rapid cooling of basalt lava exposed to the surface of the earth. Usually black or grey in color basalt is one of the most common rocks on earth and can be found throughout the globe. The most famous basalt deposit is the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland where pillars of basalt rock are one of earth’s natural wonders. ● How is basalt fiber used? Basalt Fiber is most often used as plastic composite reinforcement for added stiffness or strength, but basalt can also be used for high temperature insulation or concrete reinforcement. Basalt composite products can be call BFRPs (basalt fiber reinforced plastics). ● Why use Basalt Fiber? Products using Mafic Basalt Fibers are less expensive, have longer lifespans and reduced environmental footprints. Our Mission Statement: "Mafic strives for innovation, performance, and quality in all of our products, and meeting our customers’ every need is our first priority."
