An Internist is a doctor of medicine who has been trained to become a medical specialist in the accurate diagnosis of disease and treatment of non-surgical diseases, particularly of the internal organs. Internists take a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of the adult patient. As a personal physician, the internist provides a continuing relationship and may be seen for any concern relating to prevention, sickness or emergencies. If further consultation or treatment is required, the internist will refer you to another specialist but will continue to supervise your treatment, including follow up care.
