The Mutual Friend is a prototype platform for facilitated peer support conversations on everyday, non-pathological, issues that affect emotional wellbeing (e.g. problems at work or relationship worries). Offering an anonymised and safe space to reflect on life's challenges, The Mutual Friend is a blended selective intervention approach to the prevention of poor mental health. The hour-long conversations are conducted in private single use chat rooms and facilitated by a trained moderator. They bring together methods from the world of qualitative research, self-help forums, coaching and psychotherapy.
