Headquartered at Belur (or Belurmath), Howrah, Kolkata, it has four other campuses in Kolkata, Coimbatore, Ranchi and Narendrapur. In July 2005 the University was declared by Government of India as a Deemed University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. RKMVERI provides courses on subjects as varied as fundamental science education and Indian cultural and spiritual heritage, rural and tribal development, disability management and special education. RKMVERI is inspired by the fundamental educational ideas of Swami Vivekananda and aims to actualize Swamiji's educational ideas of imparting life building, man-making and character-building education by combining the best elements of the East and the West.
