Councillor Angela Vithoulkas is a second term independent councillor for the City of Sydney. She is a well-known business owner, an advocate for small business and the startup community and a radio presenter for SME Radio. On most weekdays you will find Angela at her award winning VIVO cafe on George St, which also houses the SME radio broadcast booth. Both the cafe and Angela’s success have been acknowledged through numerous awards including the 2005 City of Sydney business of the year, 2005 City of Sydney Cafe of the year, 2006 NSW entrepreneur of the year and the 2007 Telstra Women’s business owner of the year. As a public speaker she continues to engage audiences about a wide range of relevant and topical issues. She also regularly appears in the media to voice the concerns of business owners in the city, particularly in relation to light rail developments. In 2013, Angela’s engagement with the small business community led to her establishing Eagle Waves Radio station. That digital station was dedicated to small business matters in Sydney and abroad, with Angela regularly hosting shows and interviewing guests. In 2016, the station has received a ‘renovation’, re-launching as SME Radio. Angela maintains her place as a producer and host of the station, providing a voice for the thousands of small business owners. Angela was elected as an independent Councillor for her first term on council in 2012. She subsequently filled the role of Deputy Chairperson of the City of Sydney Economic Development and Business Sub-committee due to her relationship with, and advocacy for small business. Angela formed the Sydney Matters Independent team to once again run as a City of Sydney Independent Councillor. During the campaign, she passionately campaigned for the introduction of smart technology. Angela strongly believes that smart technology is capable of transforming the city’s amenity and helping Sydney maintain its position as an economic powerhouse.
