The Childrens School

www.tcsseattle.org

Our 501-c-3 not-for-profit preschool serves children ages 2-6 years. At TCS children are encouraged to make their own decisions, do things for themselves and respect others’ rights to do the same. We nurture the children’s emerging self-reliance, agency, independence and life skills in the context of nurturing relationships with teachers and each other. We emphasize child-directed learning by providing meaningful and challenging activities for children to select from that capture their interests and spark their curiosity. We support each child’s individual development, strengths, and emerging interests using individualized instruction. We foster and affirm children's social-emotional skills, mindfulness and burgeoning sense of self and identity. Our understanding of social-emotional learning supports a true classroom community with plenty of organic opportunities for practicing communication and problem-solving skills with teachers and each other. We know that parents are children’s primary teachers and we value that home-school partnership, extending our view of community to include the children’s families and neighborhoods. We cultivate an organizational culture that puts children, and families first in all of our decisions and practices, and we strive to support our teachers' professional development and well-being.
