There are two ambulance units that serve the City of Blooming Prairie and surrounding area, Unit #125 and Unit #126. Each ambulance is equipped with everything needed to handle any emergency. We carry medicines for all types of calls, including epinephrine for allergic reactions, albuterol for respiratory illnesses, glucagon for diabetic shock, nitro for cardiac problems, and we administer I.V.'s. Each ambulance is also equipped with an AED for cardiac arrest emergencies. Our service has acquired a Lucas device which is a device that will help us with accurate compression's during CPR. We are a BLS (Basic Life Support) service, but we due utilize ALS (Advanced Life Support) services from Gold Cross in both Austin and Owatonna when needed. We also utilize Mayo One Helicopter out of St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, which is one of four Adult & Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Centers in Minnesota. We also utilize Mayo Three Helicopter out of Emmanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. We also work closely with the Blooming Prairie Police Department, Steele County Sheriff's Office, Freeborn County Sheriff's Office, Mower County Sheriff's Office and Dodge County Sheriff's Office. We also work with the Blooming Prairie Fire Department as well as with other surrounding community emergency services. The reason for working with so many different agencies is due to the city being the only city in Minnesota located at the four corners of four different counties.
