Concerned Black Men Inc
www.cbmphila.orgA brief history of Concerned Black Men, Inc. In the city of Philadelphia, in 1975, teenage gangs and their attendant violence, was at its peak. The activity of these young people became the focus of the print and electronic media. As a result, five African American Police Officers, who were concerned about the negative images of young African Americans, formed an organization to showcase positive African American youths. In the ensuing 35 years, 23 Chapters with over 500 African American men have been established throughout the United States, Pretoria, South Africa, and the Bahamas, and thousands of young people have been afforded access to scholarships and other life enhancing programs. Some of the current programs include; African American Youth Recognition and Awards Banquet, Chess Program, Historical Black Colleges & Universities(HBCU) Tours, Saturday Mentoring Program, Tutoring Program, Bringing the Boy to Manhood, Evening and After School Computer Program, and Bringing Black Men to Mentoring. Our mission is to develop programs that motivate, educate and build self esteem, and to present these programs and other activities to the youth in our community, particularly, the African American youth; and we will continue “Caring For Our Youth.” Founders Louis Abrams Harvey L.
