EpVets was founded in 2016 by Andrew Epstein, a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. After 9 years of service, Andrew began suffering from seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy. After an arduous battle for benefits, Andrew was medically retired and continued his fight for survival in the civilian world. Andrew soon realized that the life as a civilian was far more difficult than he expected. He spent years struggling with both the VA and civilian healthcare providers to find the care that he needed. Everything from managing the side effects of his medication, to scheduling doctors appointments, to managing the stress of military transition became nearly unbearable. However, his journey to find stability led him to discover that he wasn't the only one that needed help. EpVets was created as a way to support veterans who are struggling with epilepsy and traumatic brain injury while they continue their transition into civilian life.
