How important are family businesses for the economy and society? What is the logic behind innovation in family businesses? How do successors become entrepreneurs? Can a generational change strengthen the company? What makes family businesses special from the perspective of empirical capital market research? We would like to know that too. And there are many other open questions, which we address in our interdisciplinary research on family businesses. Since its foundation in 2009, the Friedrichshafen Institute for Family Enterprises | FIF has been engaged in research, teaching and continuing education, particularly with regard to the central entrepreneurial and family challenges and opportunities of family enterprises with regard to their sustainability. All topics such as strategy, innovation, brand management and corporate succession are considered from a cross-generational and interdisciplinary perspective. Our approach is deliberately strong in research and at the same time application-oriented and entrepreneurial.
