In every area with the aim of conveying knowledge, an appealing optical presentation is necessary to arouse interest and to make content clear and comprehensible. Precisely in the life sciences the issues are so complex that didactically well-presented illustrations are indispensable for the representation of contexts. As opposed to this scientists do not have suitable means for high quality visualizations of their research results. Consequently biologists, physicians and researchers of contiguous areas are almost prohibited from accessing modern visualizing techniques. Their capabilities in education, media and advertising are often left unexploited. As an answer to this problem the Effigos AG was founded in 2011. The company vision is the preparation of academically correct three-dimensional mockups that reproduce the biological systems from the anatomical through to the cellular level. The focus is on the completion of an entire »3D kit« of the human organism as well as some animal species that are relevant for research – worlds first from the macroscopic anatomy right up to microscopic fine structure. For this purpose an extensive web-based electronic library will be provided, which will contain a broad range of pre-built graphics and animations regarding the fundamentals of biological processes.
