Khione began with a simple idea -- to make the outdoors more accessible. The movement began with Casey Messick and Caleb Lystrup, two long-time friends and students in Utah. They were not outdoor gurus; they had no big-name sponsors. They had not hiked the legendary Appalachian Trail nor had they summited sky-high Denali. What they had seen was the majesty of nearby Mount Timpanogos and the awe-inspiring beauty of Big Cottonwood Canyon. They realized there is a large gap between the avid outdoorsman and the aspiring adventurer. Almost all people hope to enjoy and admire the outdoors, but many feel put-off by the complex process of getting there. Let’s face it, the outdoors culture can sometimes feel like an exclusive club of experienced, connected, extreme risk-takers. At Khione, we insist that the outdoors never be viewed as exclusionary. We advocate for an outdoor experience that is simple, easy, spontaneous, and social. Our sole mission is to break down the barriers, eliminate the unknowns, simplify the process, and get people, all people, outside. So, for the people who want to get outside, we pledge to make it simple. We make products that are easy to use and eliminate the need for a trunk full of gear.
