Madison-Morgan Conservancy

www.mmcgeorgia.org

The mission of the Madison-Morgan Conservancy is to provide public education on conservation matters and to protect and enhance the heritage and quality of life of the residents of Morgan County by preserving historic sites, greenspace, farmland, and timberland. Incorporated as Georgia’s first county-wide conservancy on January 13, 2000, the Madison-Morgan Conservancy has helped protect over 1,000 through conservation easements, provided 37 educational forums, helped create and fund Georgia’s first county-wide Greenprint, co-founded the regional “Land Talks” series, and sustained a good working relationship with local governments. The Conservancy’s unique holistic approach to land conservation includes five programs: 1) promoting the use of conservation easements, 2) hosting educational forums, 3) reviewing development plans proposed to the county and municipalities, 4) inventorying the natural, agricultural, and historic resources, and 5) promoting a Farm to Market Alliance designed to support local farmers in their marketing and transportation of fresh local food from farm to table.
