cms.polsci.ku.dkCentre for Military Studies (CMS) is an independent research centre at the Department of Political Science at University of Copenhagen. At CMS, we do research within the fields of strategy, security policy, and military conditions. Against this backdrop, we do research based consultancy for the Danish Ministry of Defense, including analysis on current political defense- and security issues of strategic importance for Denmark. CMS’ objective is to bring academic knowledge into play for the benefit of both decision makers and the Danish public. We do this by e.g. participating in the public debate and public events, such as conferences, seminars, and hearings. We also offer open lectures and teaching as well as online access to our publications. Finally, we also contribute with counseling and closed briefings of decision makers. CMS was established in 2010 as a part of the defense agreement. As a university research centre, CMS is subject to the Danish university law and University of Copenhagen’s rules about research freedom. Our consultancy work for the political level is also subject to the arm’s length principle.
