We believe: justice = development. Zariya is an award-winning non-profit on a mission to ensure that every woman who faces violence gets safe and swift access to help. We are a team of Stanford and IIT students and alumni with a vision to empower every victim of violence to be a survivor with a voice and will to justice. Zariya's mission is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 of Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Our Technology Zariya's technology is built upon unique design and user experience that is emotionally comforting to a survivor of violence and at the same time urges a survivor to take action and seek well-being. With only an email address and pincode, Zariya collects little information from the survivor and matches her with an appropriate professional near her within 48 hours. This is achieved via automated emails generated on the backend to our Partner Network as well as the survivor. To lend transparency to the whole process, the survivor is kept abreast of developments through notifications. Although Zariya is currently a web application, it is built with mobile usage in mind. So, this first step on the journey to justice can be taken on any device. 'Zariya' means 'access' in South Asian languages. And, it means ‘light’ in Middle Eastern languages.
