New City Christian School is a non-profit private school in the city of Asheville, NC that offers a K-5th grade education primarily to students from under-served communities. In 2006, and in every year subsequent, less than half of Asheville City African-American students in grades 3-5 passed their North Carolina end-of-grade standardized tests in both reading and math. This troubling “achievement gap” was the stimulus for the founding of a school that would serve as an alternative option for under-resourced families looking for a better education for their child. New City utilizes curriculum that has been demonstrated in similar schools to be consistently effective in providing high academic standards. New City is committed to small class sizes, setting high expectations, and exposure to a wide range of opportunities and experiences that widen a child’s imagination and curiosity. A significant piece of our mission is to inspire a sense of purpose in our students. The New City student body regularly affirms truths about themselves and about God. Our teachers are relational and intentional in conveying each student’s worth and value. We desire for each student to grow in confidence, knowing that they have a significant contribution to make to their community.
