The Charis Project
www.thecharisproject.orgWithout the protection of a strong family children get hurt. The Charis Project equips families with the wisdom and courage they need to protect their children and raise them to be the heroes they were born to be. Our model deploys 3 integrated phases of engagement. STEP 1 - Family Rescue Program ---Give hope to the hopeless. We engage families in crisis and hold out a hand of friendship and support. Home visits, food support, counseling and intentional relationship building help families gather strength for the next step of the journey. STEP 2 - Family Education Program Education and training gives parents the tools to build their families strong. We have three main topical focuses: 1) Physical health and wellbeing a) Women’s health, pregnancy, childbirth, attachment, and breastfeeding b) Nutrition c) Community health, hygiene, and sanitation 2) Healthy family dynamics a) Domestic violence and substance abuse b) Positive parenting c) Early childhood education d) Healthy marriage 3) Healthy financial practices a) Basic household financial management b) Village Savings and Loan Association STEP 3 - Family Enterprise Program The core of our model of financial empowerment for family enterprise is the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA). We train communities in managing and administering their own micro savings and loan association. The Charis Project deploys an integrated suite of targeted services to save the lives of children by healing, strengthening, and keeping their families together. We do this in the context of ongoing supportive intentional relationship. Our vision is for every child to be in a strong healthy family.
