www.ltky.fi

The Student Union of LUT University, shortly LTKY, was founded in 1969, when the University started to provide education. To date there are around 5500 student members in our Student Union. Every university in Finland has a Student Union and every person studying in the university has to be a member of the Student Union. This is set by Finnish univiersity legislation. By virtue of the status of the Student Unions under the public law they are liable to take care of the given assignments. The Student Union is prescribed more precisely in its own byelaws. The purpose of the Student Union is to unite the students and promote their academic and personal well being. The Student Union has representatives in all decision-making bodies of the Lappeenranta University of Technology for instance in University Board, Department Councils, Scientific Councils ect. Duty of the Student Union is to assure that students' voice will be heard in the decision-making at the university. LTKY takes care of its members' health care with the contract made with Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). Thus the services of FSHS are available for all the members of LTKY. In addition the Student Union takes care of the housing of the students together with Lappeenranta Student Housing Foundation (LOAS). In the delegation of LOAS students have majority of votes. Furthermore Student Union organizes a lot of free time and sport activities for its members. The Student Union has around 30 clubs and the members of the Student Union are allowed to take part in their activities.
