University of Bristol Bar Society

www.bristolbarsociety.co.uk

The University of Bristol Bar Society is the second largest society within the Law School and the only one tailored towards students interested in a career at the Bar, providing networking opportunities with barristers and judges, and hosting many competitions designed to improve oral advocacy regardless of career path. Throughout the academic year, we organise talks from barristers and judges, pupillage and mini-pupillage advice sessions, advocacy training workshops, mooting, visits to the Inns of Court and the Supreme Court, networking events - including an annual black tie Networking Dinner - and the popular Bristol mock trial, which marks the culmination of the academic year at the University of Bristol Law School. The Bar Society has also recently turned its focus to diversity, setting out to prove that there is no 'bar to the Bar'. In the 2017/18 academic year, Diversity Week was expanded into Diversity Fortnight, and in 2018/19 we are once again running an Advocacy Scholar Scheme which has a funded prize of a trip to a qualifying dinner at one of the four Inns, Middle Temple. Additionally, we have introduced a non-law representative to ensure that all students are aware of the opportunities the Bar, and Bar Society, can afford to them. **National winner of 'Best Society for Aspiring Barristers' 2015, 2016 and 2017, and 'Most Committed to Improving Diversity' 2017!**
