The Association of Women Contractors (AWC) provides unique support to women business owners in the construction industry. The organization was founded in 1995 by a group of pioneering women who were determined to help other women succeed in a male-dominated industry. Our Mission: The Association of Women Contractors is dedicated to providing advocacy, collaboration and industry leadership to support and enrich women-owned companies in the construction industry. Our Guiding Principles: 1. Create networks to promote opportunities for member women-owned businesses 2. Promote the role of WBO and women in construction industry as a whole 3. Provide resources to enhance growth and development of members 4. Intentional involvement with networks that pursue legislation affecting women business owners Members of the AWC include women who bid work in the construction industry as general contractors, specialty subcontractors, material suppliers and trucking businesses. As contractors or material suppliers, they are working statewide on residential and commercial projects as vertical contractors, or on transportation related projects building roads, bridges, airports and waterways. The organization has grown to more than 225 women business owners and associate members since its inception. The current board of directors is committed to developing a professionally managed firm that delivers exceptional value to its members. The Association of Women Contractors is a Minnesota organization.
