As a scientific research base in electrical engineering field focusing on the high-tech research & development, and a national scientific research organization aiming at developing new technologies of electrical engineering & energy as its scientific orientation, Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IEECAS) plays an unique role in State`s deployment of electrical engineering science. During the 40 years since its foundation, IEE has been fighting in the frontline of basic research and high-tech strategic development for electrical engineering discipline. It has extensively studied some key technical problems, such as the power system stability, large electric machines, high voltage techniques, power system automation, and electrical measurement. Moreover, it takes the lead in initiating research and development of the electric spark machining technology and MHD power generation, making great contributions to Chinese power system development and electrical equipment manufacturing, promoting the internationally competitive ability in electrical engineering technology. So far, it has gained more than 400 achievements in scientific research, over 100 of which have been popularized and applied to industry, national defense and scientific research. It received over 100 awards issued by the state, CAS and others atministerial level and obtained 108 national patents, Including 46 patents of invention.
