Legato Lingua
www.legatolingua.orgLegato Lingua is a nonprofit organization focused on spreading knowledge of foreign languages, linguistics, and neuroscience around the Bay Area. Our foreign language programs are free 8-week courses offered year-round in which elementary school children will gain exposure to the basics of a language. Through fun games and academic instruction, students learn the fundamentals of reading, writing, and conversation in a friendly environment. We welcome all levels of background and tailor programs specifically to fit the students' learning backgrounds. Classes are located in public libraries around the San Francisco Bay Area. Although at Legato Lingua our main focus is to teach and introduce foreign languages to children, we are also extremely passionate about the field of linguistics. Part of our mission as an organization is to increase awareness of this rich and vast field, which is often unknown and misunderstood by many. Hence, we host seminars once a month that are open to all ages, where we introduce the field and cover basic topics in phonology and historical linguistics. We hope to make an impact and influence more individuals to study linguistics in the future.
