The West River VAT works under the auspices of the South Dakota Department of Homeland Security and can trace its lineage to the National Infrastructure Protection Plan under the DHS National Protection & Programs Directorate. The purpose of the Team is to identify, prioritize, conduct vulnerability assessments, and offer options for consideration in an effort to harden and improve the resiliency of Critical Infrastructure and Key Resources in Western South Dakota.
