The Classroom Academy residency program is a two-year, in-classroom experiential commitment. This pilot is part of the graduate program and Masters of Science in Teaching degree through SUNY Plattsburgh. The delivery of graduate level coursework is different from the traditional model as it includes summer coursework and then differently structured courses (5 week cycles) during the academic year. The resident receives a $22,000 per year living-stipend through the WSWHE BOCES, which requires candidates to be finger-printed and apply for a Residency Certificate. Participation in this pilot requires acceptance into the SUNY Plattsburgh MST program which currently offers programs, which lead to NYS certification, in 7-12 English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Spanish, Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Childhood Education (grades 1-6). • Year 1 August coursework extending opportunities to apply learning through the fall, Sept full-time classroom placement with an attending teacher, observing, applying academic learning, planning, working with individual students or small groups under the direction and support of the attending teacher and gradually moving to whole group with continued support assuming, at least, 25% of classroom duties and responsibilities by the end of Year 1; both fall and spring complete clinical rounds related to coursework; participation in monthly PLC. • Year 2 continue with summer coursework; start September as a full co-teacher alongside the attending teacher; continue participation in monthly PLC; complete and submit the edTPA in December; spend 6 weeks starting in January in a "sister" placement for exposure to another school culture; return to the home school and classroom for co-teaching through the spring with the understanding candidates may be used to substitute, only in their area of certification, by the district for up to 2 days per week.
