Mission The Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement provides enhanced learning opportunities and access to resources and relationships in order to develop students into career-ready and community-minded graduates. History With the A&M San Antonio mission calling for a focus on experiential learning and providing students industry-responsive academic and co-curricular programs to create a transformative experience for students, the Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement was formed in 2016 to combine the areas of Career Services, Experiential Learning, and Civic Engagement. In 2017 Texas A&M University- San Antonio announced a $5 million gift from the Mays Family Foundation in order to support the work of the Center. A portion of the $5 million gift, the largest gift in the history of A&M-San Antonio, was used to complete construction of the newly-named Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement. The 4,259-square-foot space facility is housed within the new Science and Technology Building which opened in fall 2018. The donation has also helped fund growth of Center staff and enhanced programming.
