The Whittier Area Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching people to read, write, and speak the English language. To fulfill our mission, we train community members in their role as volunteer literacy tutors and pair them with a child, or adult seeking to improve their literacy skills. We use a variety of methods to meet each individual student where they are at in order to help them reach their learning goals. As a volunteer-based organization, The Whittier Area Literacy Council is always seeking passionate volunteers to work with our growing number of adults, and children.
