LA Wallet is the first legally accepted digital driver's license and state ID (mDL) in Louisiana and the nation. The app was made legal for driving purposes per Louisiana law of Act 625 of the 2016 session with growing acceptance across the state including restaurants, bars, and retail outlets. While the free app allows verification of other LA Wallet and physical driver’s licenses, users can activate their digital driver’s license or state ID for only $5.99 through the Apple Store and Google Play Store. The in-app purchase activates the license for legal usage for the same term as a physical Louisiana Drivers License or up to six years. The State of Louisiana has issued statements about the legality of LA Wallet which address using with state, municipal, and parish law-enforcement, voting in state elections, casinos and gaming, and even the ATC (Alcohol Tobacco Control) of Louisiana for retail purchases. Since we are innovating so fast, we recommend you still carry your physical license until the news of LA Wallet’s legal acceptance has made it to all agencies and vendors.
