Poverty, drug abuse, and academic failure haunt thousands of Washington County families. These youth programs make the difference between success or failure for a generation of Oregonians. Washington County Kids is an investment program that will save millions in social service and criminal justice costs. People who need housing, utilities, and food assistance are generally living with the help of tax-payer funded assistance. Our program ends the cycle of dependence. Children in poverty need more support than just the K-12 experience. Helping kids and teens be successful in school allows them to become productive members of our community. Washington County Kids reduces the cost of providing social services. This initiative is about work force development, access to education, and self-sufficiency. Washington County Kids is a nonpartisan approach to solving some of our most pressing community challenges. Opinion leaders from both ends of the political spectrum champion the plan. Washington County Kid is overwhelmingly supported by state leaders, city officials and school administrators. Many Washington County city government leaders support the plan. Polling data confirm a levy to fund these programs is certain to pass with 57% of county voters and that is without the benefit of any campaigning. Once we educate voters about the fund we expect it to pass with a 63% plurality. Voters overwhelmingly want these programs for area children.
