♦What is CAMP? The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at Metropolitan State University of Denver is a grant-funded scholarship program by the U.S. Department of Education. CAMP is designed to meet the academic, financial, and social needs of migrant and/or seasonal farmworkers and their children in pursuing higher education. The CAMP scholarship supports completion of the first year of studies with the goal of continued enrollment and graduation from MSU Denver. While the program provides its most comprehensive assistance during the freshman year of college, the CAMP team is available to assist students throughout their college experience. ♦Who may apply for CAMP? In order to be eligible to participate in the CAMP scholarship the student must: 1. Have a high school diploma or GED AND 2. Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident AND 3. The student, or a household family member: •Has worked in agricultural related jobs within the last 2 years for a minimum of 75 days OR •At some point, has participated in the Migrant Education Program (MEP) or the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) ♦What services does CAMP provide? Academic services •Enrollment assistance •Academic advising •Career orientation •Degree planning •Tutoring services •Weekly student meetings •Connections to academic resources •Study abroad opportunities Financial services •Monthly stipend •Full-coverage of health insurance (if needed) •Assistance with part of the tuition and fees •Assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) •Help with finding and applying for scholarships Social services •CAMP new student orientation and retreat •Annual CAMP student leadership conference •Peer mentor program •Cultural and social events •Leadership development opportunities ♦What are some of the agricultural jobs that qualify for CAMP? An agricultural related job is: •Any activity directly related to the production of crops, dairy products, poultry, or livestock (i.e.: Farming, irrigation, orchards, dairies, slaughterhouses, transportation of livestock or poultry, plant nurseries, sod farms, etc.). •Any activity directly related to the cultivation or harvesting of trees. •Any activity directly related to fish farms.
