San Diego Master Chorale
www.sdmasterchorale.orgOriginally established in 1961 as the choral arm of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, the San Diego Master Chorale became an independent organization in 1975. Still the preferred choral ensemble for the San Diego Symphony and the Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the Chorale also produces an annual series of concerts featuring the world’s greatest choral works and often showcasing living composers. We are what Chorus America terms a "professional core" chorus, with 8-12 paid singers augmenting a group of high-level amateurs. OUR MISSION We connect all people to the joy of professional-caliber live choral music and enrich lives by sharing what we have in common—our voice. RECENT MAJOR PARTNER CONCERTS * On July 31, 2021, the Chorale performed at the Spreckel Organ Society's reopening celebration, in Balboa Park's famed outdoor organ pavilion (400 audience members). * We delighted 9,267 ticket holders at the San Diego Symphony Orchestra's three family-friendly Noel Noel programs at the Rady Shell in December 2021. * The Chorale again joined the SDSO at the Rady Shell on May 27 and 28, 2022, to perform Beethoven's 9th Symphony for 6,597 audience members. * As the finale of the Mainly Mozart Festival on June 18, we presented Mozart's Requiem outdoors in Del Mar for an audience of 1,700. Total people reached by our major partner programs in 2021-2022: 17,964. RECENT SELF-PRODUCED PROGRAMS: * Oct. 2021: Favorite operatic and film choruses presented at Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church. * Nov. 2021: "Cathedral Classics" program at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in downtown San Diego and St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlsbad. * Dec. 2021: Messiah Sing at St. Paul's (sold out). * May 2022: Shawn Kirchner's "Songs of Ascent" with 24-piece orchestra, First Presbyterian Church of San Diego. Kirchner joined Music Director John K. Russell for a pre-concert talk. These smaller-venue self-produced programs reached 926 audience members.
