The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) is a non-profit organization that creates and supports communities of practice for GIScience research, education, and policy endeavors in higher education and with allied institutions. We are the professional hub for the academic GIS community in the United States, with partnerships extending this capacity abroad. Our mission is to advance research in the field of Geographic Information Science; expand and strengthen Geographic Information Science education; advocate policies for the promotion of the ethical use of and access to geographic information and technologies; and build scholarly communities and networks to foster multi-disciplinary GIS research and education. We achieve our goals through the development and support of professional development programs and activities that benefit our member institutions and the broader community. UCGIS serves as the stewards for the Geographic Information Science & Technology (GIS&T) Body of Knowledge, a community-produced authoritative collection of information about our evolving and dynamic discipline.
