Green Award Foundation

www.greenaward.org

Green Award audits and certifies seagoing and inland navigation vessels that go beyond legally required standards in terms of ship layout and equipment, quality of operations and management. Green Award‘s holistic approach ensures a wide coverage of “risk elements” related to the environmental protection, safety and quality improvement. Green Award is the platform for collaboration of all sectors of the shipping industry. Only those ships that have achieved and manage to maintain a high level of quality are capable of obtaining the Green Award certificate. The certificate implies that the ship’s overall performance surpasses that of a regular ship. More than 160 incentive providers: ports and private companies participate in the scheme and grant savings to vessels with a Green Award certificate. This way ports and marine service providers financially or operationally reward above-standard ships and implement their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. In fact we can speak of joint maritime CSR when we take the entire industry involvement into account. The Green Award certification scheme is open to oil/chemical tankers, dry bulk carriers, LNG and LPG carriers, container carriers, Ro-Ro cargo ships, offshore supply ships, inland barges and river cruises. Certification procedure is carried out by the Bureau Green Award, the executive body of the independent non-profit Green Award Foundation.
