Veterans Voices Writing Project (VVWP) utilizes therapeutic writing to rehabilitate veterans. Our Mission: To enable military veterans to experience solace and satisfaction through our writing program. Our Vision: Is a world where people appreciate that writing can both heal and entertain. The project encourages veterans to express their thoughts and feelings in writing and to send their stories, essays and poems to the VVWP headquarters for potential publication in Veterans’ Voices magazine. The magazine is made possible by ongoing contributions to HVWP. We are thankful for circulation support to VAMCs by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. VVWP publishes 7,000 copies of Veterans’ Voices three times a year. Veterans Voices Writing Project History: • Established as HVWP in 1946 by Elizabeth Fontaine in Chicago. • Writing adds new dimension to veteran therapy. • Hospital writing competitions galvanize program. • Veterans’ Voices magazine is established in 1952 by Margaret Sally Keach and Gladys Feld Helzberg, members of the Kansas City Chapter of Theta Sigma Phi. • HVWP moves headquarters from Chicago to Kansas City in 1972. • Margaret Clark named Veterans’ Voices editor in 1974. • Headquarters were moved to Kansas City, MO in 2014. • Mission was expanded to include all veterans in therapeutic writing services in 2015. • Name and logo changed to reflect new mission
