Our NPO was established in 2001 with a mission to unite, educate and inspire youth from diverse communities experiencing conflict across racial divides, through sustained, sports-based programming that is led by committed and effective local coaches and grounded in leadership development and conflict transformation. Over the past 17 years, PeacePlayers South Africa has built 34 basketball courts, served over 10,000 young people, currently working with 550 children and youth, boys and girls aged 8 – 25 in the Primary School Programme, Leadership Development Programme, Coaches Development Programme and Professional development Programme in the communities of UMlazi, Lamontville, Wentworth, and Durban City. PeacePlayers South Africa has training more than 400 youth mentors as peer educators and coaches, many of whom are young women who have gone on to higher education or become successfully employed (97% of current youth mentors are former programme participants). In addition, the organisation has partnered with 59 local schools and including NGOs like Save the Children, Zoe Life, LIV Village, Indigo Youth Movement and United Through Sports. Recently, we were nominated and won the Recreation Body of the Year Awards and the 2018 KwaZulu-Natal Sports Awards which has made us even more eager to continue do the work that we do and engage more youth in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and Africa. Thank you for taking interest in sharing our story and wanting to learn more on how you can be a part of our organisation both directly and indirectly.
