The Known Unknown (TKU) was founded in 2009 by artist, host, and actress, Tika Simone ('da Kink In My Hair, MTV's the After Show). With an aim to demonstrate and highlight the emergence of a creative youth culture in Toronto, Simone began TKU as a showcase and since its inception, TKU, has grown to be a collective of young visionaries: musicians, contemporary artists, and writers. The Known Unknown has been responsible for premiering and breaking ground for many underground acts from Toronto and abroad. In addition to the curated showcases, the new platform will host and encourage active participation in a variety of experimental activities. Promoting curiosity, imagination, innovation and talent and building a collection of interactive conversations with today's underground and emerging acts from all fields of expressive thought. While also remaining true to its roots, by bringing innovative and challenging music from independent acts to audiences both existing and untapped. TKU is a network of open-minded individuals composed of creative intellectuals that are here to create change within the musical realm of the city (Toronto). The Known Unknown believes that creativity is multidimensional. The act and process of being creative can problem solve and inspire. TKU finds, uplifts, and encourages independent artists to work collectively to broaden their potential through our monthly showcases, interactive interview series, podcast, mentorship workshops and network with other artists and organizations.
