IT Schools Africa is a UK-registered charity founded in 2004 with a mission to provide quality IT education for disadvantaged young people in Africa while simultaneously supporting vulnerable individuals through our active UK Community programme. IT Schools Africa supports the UN sustainable goals to alleviate poverty through access to quality education. We collect used computers in the UK, refurbish them , install educational software and distribute them to schools in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. So far we have distributed over 50,000 computers , completed 15 e-Learning labs and trained over 750 teachers in IT and have given access to IT to 3 million students. As well as improving IT education in Africa, ITSA UK Community Programme supports long term unemployed and adults /young people with learning difficulties as well as supporting work experience placements. The majority of computers donated to IT Schools Africa are refurbished in prison workshops under our Prison Workshop Programme. The prisoners do meaningful work and learn new IT skills along the principles of restorative justive that benefit others whilst making a positive contribution to society.
