Hersenletsel Liga vzw
www.hersenletselliga.beThe Hersenletsel Liga vzw connects all people striving to increase the quality of life for people with an Acquired brain injury (ABI). The foundation supports people with an ABI, their family, their caregivers and close ones. Moreover, we make the bridge with healthcare professionals, institutions, hospitals and everyone professionally active in increasing the quality of life of persons with an ABI. The Hersenletsel Liga ensures the implementation and follow-up of the Flemish Acquired Brain Injury Plan, focusing on raising awareness, stimulating research and innovation and striving for integrated care for persons with an acquired brain injury within a cohesive healthcare-system. An ABI is brain damage caused by (often sudden) events after birth. An ABI can result in visible and invisible cognitive, physical, emotional, or behavioral impairments that lead to permanent or temporary changes in functioning. These impairments can result from traumatic brain injury (e.g. physical trauma due to accidents, assaults, neurosurgery, head injury etc.) or non-traumatic injury derived from either an internal or external source (e.g. stroke, brain tumors, infection, poisoning, hypoxia, ischemia, encephalopathy or substance abuse).
