The Next 50 believes young, Democratic candidates and organizers will be more representative and effective when fundraising is more accessible to all. To that end, we organize new and established donors to invest in young political leaders. Our goal is to become the leading investment vehicle for up to 50 young political leaders in swing districts by 2022. Established in 2019, The Next 50 raised over $4.7M from 17,000+ donors, hosted events for 18 presidential candidates, and dozens of down-ballot candidates in the country’s most critical races during the 2020 election cycle. In 2020, The Next 50 also created its pilot Leadership Program, which invested in 15 local, young candidates in swing districts across the nation. Today, over 67% are in political leadership: in elected office, executives of statewide organizations, working in government, or currently running for another office. Of the candidates that ran in 2020, 100% are planning to run again. The program proved that with strategic investments in young candidates, running in the right districts, we can win now and build for the future.
