Andrew Stevovich Fine Art
www.andrewstevovich.comAndrew Stevovich is a distinguished American contemporary painter represented in New York City for the past 36 years by esteemed gallerist Warren Adelson of the Adelson Galleries and, beginning in 2012, also by his son Adam, in their family's Boston gallery. -- This page is managed by the artist's digital communications representative, JMV Media Group. -- Stevovich is known for his distinct and meticulous painting style by which he depicts unconventional figures through the careful application of oil paint on canvas. "He has distilled the features of the people he represents to their essential elements, and allows the observer to assign their own meaning," notes Adam Adelson in the exhibition catalog for Stevovich's most recent one-man show, which concluded in June 2018. In 2007, James Gardner of the New York Sun, said in a review of his work that, "Mr. Stevovich is an extremely precise delineator of reality, yet he is not a realist. Though there is an almost cartoonish abstractness to the features of the figures he portrays, they have a resonance and a seriousness that rise above that genre." Stevovich has said that the two major influences on his work are the early Italian Renaissance, (from Giotto to Fran Angelico and Piero della Francesca) and Expressionism. He notes, "The humanism, abstraction and discipline of the former, the color and psychology of the latter, have all been of fundamental importance to my work." Stevovich's work has been included in numerous group exhibitions in prestigious galleries, museums and art fairs across the U.S., as well as solo exhibitions at Adelson Galleries. In 2009, a mid-career survey of Stevovich's work traveled from the Hudson River Museum to the Boca Raton Museum. In 2019, the Hudson River Museum will organize another survey of Stevovich's work that will include his most recent paintings and drawings.
