Assistance League Of Seattle

seattle.assistanceleague.org

Assistance League Of Seattle is a non-profit 501(c)(3) company that lowers barriers to education in Seattle public schools and colleges. The National Assistance League was founded in 1919 in Los Angeles, CA and has grown to over 120 chapters and 22,000 members. The AL-S chapter raises funds through its Thrift Store, an annual auction, and through grants and donations. Our chapter provides new clothing to over 3000 Seattle Public School children annually. We know that new clothing for students has the power to elevate self-esteem, encourage school attendance, and improve academic performance. We are providing far more than just a new wardrobe—we are empowering young students to reach their full potential. Over 50 middle and high school students are given $500 grants to attend a variety of summer camps, furthering their interests in STEM, environmental and other summer enrichment programs. We support literacy programs by providing over 4000 grade appropriate new books to K-8 students annually. We also provide 100% tuition, books and transportation costs for up to 25 students attending local community college programs who are not eligible for other financial aid programs.
