Oztag was created in 1992 by former NRL Player and Coach Perry Haddock. Oztag is a non-contact version of Rugby League. Eight players in each team are on the field at any one time. Players wear shorts with a Velcro patch on each side which the 'Tag' is attached to. The attacking team has 5 plays to score a try. To stop the attacking player the defence must remove a tag. At a social level Oztag is currently being played in NSW, QLD, ACT, Melbourne, Western Australia and Northern Territory. There is over 140 associations in Australia and over 145, 000 registered players. At a Representative level Australia Oztag has 6 major tournaments every year. These are the NSW Junior and Senior State Championships, QLD Junior and Senior State Championships as well as the Junior and Senior Australian Championships. Players can be selected to represent Australia from the Australian Championships. International tournaments include the Trans-Tasman against New Zealand, The Big 4, International Tours to England and Ireland as well as the prestigious World Cup (Tag World Cup 2018 - Coffs Harbour).
