Sustainable materials, design and constructions material showroom Eco Design Green Environment (EDGE) seeks to inspire and support positive change to the ways in which we design and construct our built environments. Spread over 3 floors, EDGE offers a continually evolving, design-led showcase of stimulating materials, collaborative workspaces and on-hand advice for professionals and public alike. Discourse and discussion are central to the space and we play host to open and inspiring talks, CPD’s and workshops to help enrich the debate and foster a legacy surrounding sustainability. At a time when the debate surrounding humankind’s impact upon the earth, its climate and the people who inhabit it continues to intensify, it is more important than ever that we have a responsible attitude to material specification. To do so requires makers and manufacturers that are willing to take a considered approach to sustainability and at EDGE we make it our mission to find them. We seek those that: consciously endeavour to choose raw materials based on provenance and quantity required, aim to reduce the energy needed and pollution created in the production and transportation of their materials, reuse resources and waste, create regenerative materials and utilise closed-loop production methods. We do not believe that materials designed to reduce their negative social and environmental impact should ever hinder innovation - if anything, they should enhance it. Our aim is to inspire creativity whilst offering a permanent space for aspirational material suppliers and specifiers to connect. We believe in transparency and think that an honest approach to materiality is key to making more sustainable decisions when planning our built environments. We don’t have all the solutions, but that won’t stop us from striving to discover them. Join us in making a start.
