Thiago De Moraes Gonzaga Foundation

www.vidaurgente.org.br

The Thiago de Moraes Gonzaga Foundation is a non-profit social organization from Brazil, whose mission is the preservation of life and road safety. Through the program Vida Urgente, it develops projects and actions of education, culture, assistance and social mobilization, involving different publics and institutions in the construction of more humane and safer roads for all. The Thiago Gonzaga Foundation was born from a life interrupted at the age of 18. The couple Diza and Regis Gonzaga, moved by the the loss of their son Thiago, created the Foundation and the Vida Urgente, a permanent program of education, culture, citizenship and social mobilization. Inspired by the young Thiago, whom his mother Diza Gonzaga used to call "butterfly researcher", Vida Urgente has in its symbol and its philosophy the joy, the lightness and the strength to multiply its message, which made the Foundation complete more than two decades with an acknowledged work in Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil and abroad. In all these years, since the beginning of its work in defence of life, the Foundation was a protagonist, contributed and accompanied many changes: the approval of the New Brazilian Road Traffic Code; the mandatory use of seatbelts; the compulsory safety seat for the children; the use of helmets for motorcyclists and the prohibition of alcohol consumption for those who will drive. But more than in the laws, the Foundation has helped to raise the awareness and engagement of thousands of young people and adults who are now closing ranks as volunteers of the Vida Urgente cause. Much progress has already been made, but even with all these efforts, road violence is still a reality that places our country among the five most violent in the world. In this sense, the Thiago de Moraes Gonzaga Foundation knows the importance of the continuity of Vida Urgente and believes that only by joining forces between civil society, companies and governments will we build a more fraternal future.
