As an artist and cognitive data scientist, Noah Syrkis look to explore the intersection of structure, beauty, and affect. In that spirit, his portfolio includes a range of mediums; photography, microscopy, computer graphics, as well as descriptions of statistical procedures. Common across these pages is a focus on our common perception of the natural and the synthetic. His work, too, communicates a curiosity about the effect of our perception on the world (as we learn from quantum mechanics, perceiving a system affects the system). It is through this curiosity that he founded Virian; a data scientific project investigating the impact of media curation algorithms on culture, while developing strategies for better aligning these algorithms with our collective values.
