Since it’s 2002 inception, Prince Edward Island based company Frontier Power Systems has become one of Canada’s leading experts in wind technology. Our most unique expertise is wind-diesel technology: the application of medium-sized wind turbines to displace diesel fuel consumption in remote communities, as well as our micro-grid technology. Frontier has focused the last decade in developing software technologies to integrate wind turbines into small diesel grids and is now moving forward with the design and fabrication of medium sized wind turbines. Notably, Frontier has almost completed development of a revolutionary 100 kW wind turbine platform specifically targeted for remote wind-diesel markets. Frontier’s first wind-diesel project was designed and built in Ramea, Nfld, and has been operational since 2003. In Ramea, wind energy represents 30% of energy generation for the island. Frontier was started by Carl Brothers, P.Eng, who has been working in wind energy for over 30 years. A pioneer in the development of wind-diesel technology, he is one of Canada’s leading experts in the field.
