Welcome to the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) and UCSF Prevention Research Center (PRC). We are located in UCSF's Division of Prevention Science, a highly productive, vibrant, and innovative group of scientists conducting cutting-edge, significant, high-impact prevention research. As prevention scientists, we are committed to understanding the etiology and prevention of social, structural, physical and mental health problems in order to translate that knowledge to the promotion of health and well-being *** Established in 1986, the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) at UC San Francisco is one of the world’s largest research centers dedicated to social, behavioral, and policy science approaches to HIV. The mission of CAPS is to end the HIV epidemic and associated health and social disparities by conducting high impact HIV prevention science and building capacity among researchers and communities to effectively address HIV. *** In 2014, CDC funded 26 new Prevention Research Centers (PRCs) for a five-year period. The UCSF PRC had become one of the 26 funded PRCs. The mission of the UCSF PRC is to maintain an interdependent network of community, academic, and public health partners to design and implement prevention research aimed at answering significant and innovative HIV research questions and promoting the wide use of practices proven to promote health for those infected and affected by HIV.
