Nordoff Robbins Scotland

We provide Music Therapy to help children & adults isolated by disability, trauma or illness. We are Scotland's only music therapy charity and help people with a wide range of conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy and dementia who often find themselves isolated from the world. The charity receives no statutory funding and requires half a million pounds every year in order to provide almost 400 adults and children each week with music therapy sessions. The principal aim of the charity is to provide access to and develop awareness of music therapy across Scotland. Our 13 qualified therapists take group and individual therapy sessions at our four bases (Maryhill in Glasgow, Broxburn in West Lothian, Crosshill in Fife and Dundee in Tayside) as well as in schools, hospitals and other healthcare/community settings throughout the country. We accept referrals from parents, carers and professionals, as well as self-referrals. We offer workshops and short courses for people who are interested in finding out how music can have an impact on well being. We also offer a bespoke service for training for organisations and collaborate with Queen Margaret University on the delivery of the MSc in Music Therapy (Nordoff-Robbins), providing lectures and placements for students. Our fundraising efforts are critical for the continuation of our vital work in local communities; almost 70% of our service users require some subsidy from the charity to access music therapy. The biggest event on our calendar is the Scottish Music Awards, aka the Tartan Clefs, which last year raised over £150,000. Our other events include Golf Days, Comedy Galas and Music Concerts, as well as events put on by fundraisers. Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland is a separate organisation to the UK charity Nordoff Robbins. It was established as a registered charity in Scotland (No SC018224) in December 1996.
