My name is Sandra Kutner and I am a Registered Counsellor at SK Counselling. My work focuses mainly on anxiety and depression which can be symptomatic of life changing events such as grief and loss, abuse, relationship issues and many more. These events can manifest in symptoms such as low self-esteem and stress to name a few. I work with particular models that underpin my practice and support my clients: A) Person centred therapy built on empathy and genuineness B) Psychodynamic theory: i. Namely Attachment Theory which focuses on the attachment bond between mother and child in formative years. The quality of this relationship sets a template for our emotional wellbeing during adolescence and adulthood. ii. Transactional Analysis which focuses on our learned behaviour around communication, helping us to understand why we think, act and feel the way we do. Using these theories, my clients’ journey involves an appreciation as to how we as humans work to understand ourselves, our relationships and our way of being in the world. Each therapeutic relationship is unique and there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach. As humans, we love clarity and certainty, but life can sometimes be chaotic and unpredictable. The challenge is to accept that whilst having a black and white lifestyle sounds ideal, it is often the chaos, complexity and colour that brings the beauty, peace and understanding. It is a challenging process but you don’t have to go at it alone. The foundation of my practice is built on empathy, trust and authenticity. I always want my clients to have a unique experience, where perhaps for the first time they are heard and understood without judgement. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is when I have a real breakthrough with a client who recognises that negative feelings and behaviours no longer hold a place in their lives. I am deeply committed to enabling people to find their inner voice and go with them on a journey towards a brighter path.
