The Institute seeks to serve the whole of the profession of chiropody. Its members include chiropodists, podiatrists and foot care professionals, employed and self-employed. The Institute certificate of membership is accepted by most employing and licensing authorities, who know that members undertake to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct. The Institute is a democratic organisation with the election of officers both local and national being decided annually by members. All members therefore play an active role in their own affairs. The Institute believes a self-governing body should follow an independent line for the progress and well-being of both the profession and the public it serves.
