Following a collaboration with Politecnico di Milano University back in 2012, Orange Fiber developed a process to create a fabric using the leftovers of citrus transformation industry, valuing just in Italy more than 700.000 tons a year, that otherwise would have to be disposed. The innovative process has been patented in 2013 and extended in international PCT the following year. The trademark has been registered and the whole supply chain has been developed choosing strategic partners among the industry excellences. In 2014 the prototypes were presented to the public, in 2015 the pilot plant has been opened in Sicily and in April 2017 the first fashion collection made with Orange Fiber has been launched by Salvatore Ferragamo. Italian roots and international ambition represent the soul of a young and dedicated company that in the last years has been awarded a number of prizes by national and international institutions for its impact and vision, as the ‘Technology and Innovation Award’ by the Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia 2017, the Global Change Award in 2015 by the H&M Foundation, the Ideas 4 Change Award in 2015 by UNECE, the Prize For Innovation by ADI DESIGN INDEX in 2015, the nomination for Compasso D’oro in 2016 and the National Prize for Innovation “Premio dei Premi” for Italian design.
